Family Therapy

When one person is struggling, the whole household feels it. Family therapy gives everyone a fair place to be heard.

What it is

Sessions that bring the people closest to you into the room to talk honestly, rebuild trust and support each other.

Many of the families we serve are carrying a lot at once: grief, money stress, a loved one who is incarcerated, a move, a change at school. Family therapy brings parents, children and other relatives together with a clinician so the hard conversations can happen safely.

Sessions focus on how the family talks, listens and solves problems. Everyone leaves with something practical to try at home, and the therapist helps keep the conversation fair when emotions run high.

Who should come to family therapy?

Whoever makes sense for the goals you set. That can be a parent and child, siblings, grandparents or other caregivers. Your clinician will help you decide.

Can family therapy happen alongside individual therapy?

Yes. Many clients see a therapist one on one and also join family sessions. Your care team coordinates both.

Is family therapy available by telehealth?

Yes. Family members can join by video, which helps when relatives live in different parts of Maryland.
